HCJMU’s Countdown Soundtrack to Spring Semester 2012!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

It’s no secret that music can immediately put us in the best mood or take us back to a special memory in our past. Music truly is the soundtrack of our lives, so what better way to end the semester than with your very own personalized set list of amazing songs.

Week of April 1st – 7th

·      “Handclaps & Guitars” – Chiddy Bang: This song has one of the catchiest beats and it has easily become one of my favorite songs of the New Year. I didn’t have many expectations for this song because it was free on iTunes a while back. However, one day I stumbled across it and decided to finally take a listen.
·      “Yes” – LMFAO: This song is quite possibly the greatest dancing song in the world. My roommate and I constantly do the “YES dance” whenever we are bored or need a break from studying. Do the universe a favor and learn the dance so that wherever you are, you can jam out to this song.
·      “Call Me Maybe” – Carly Rae Jepsen: I know, I had to include this song. Before it gets old please enjoy yourselves and belt this song out at the top of your lungs. I’ve seen it at parties, pre-games, and most exciting of them all – on the quad. Boys and girls alike are rocking out to this new pop sensation.

Week of April 8th – 14th

·      “Because I’m Awesome” – The Dollyrots: This song will probably take you back a few years, but it’s one of those songs definitely worth re-introducing yourself to. It’s such a girl-power, happy song that is perfect for this warm and amazing weather we’ve been getting.
·      “We Can” – LeAnn Rimes:  This upbeat song is filled with hope and inspiration – something perfect for the walk and fight against cancer.  That said, why not join the campus in Relay for Life this Saturday? I feel blessed to go to a school that not only has fun, but also gives so much back to the community.

Week of April 15th – 21st

·      “Marry You” – Bruno Mars: Ever since I saw the Downtown Disney Flashmob Proposal video  on YouTube, I’ve been obsessed with this song. It was released months ago, but Bruno Mars manages to release these singles that are exciting and catchy for a long time.
·      “Paradise” – Coldplay: The Madison Project’s year end show is Saturday, April 21st – something I know I will definitely try to attend! Though we prefer their rendition better, Coldplay’s “Paradise” is such a great song to jam to!

Week of April 22nd – April 28th

This is your last weekend to go absolutely insane before summer, collegiettes. Reconnect with old friends, throw one last great party, go out with all of your friends…but most importantly, don’t waste a single second. Here are just a few songs that you have got to listen too!

·      “Starships” – Nicki Minaj
·      “Tonight Is the Night” – Outasight
·      “Glad You Came” – The Wanted
·      “Part of Me” – Katy Perry
·      “Young, Wild, & Free” – Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa
·      “When I’m Gone” – Wiz Khalifa

Week of April 29th – May 5th

·      “The Fall” – Norah Jones: So you’ve finally made it to finals week. Living on coffee and running through those last dining dollars has consumed your life. It’s exciting to know that the only thing keeping you from hopping on 81 and heading home is a few blue books and number two pencils. Whenever I hit the books in club carrier, I need the perfect song to keep me motivated. This album by Norah Jones is perfect.

·      “Here’s to the Night” – Eve 6: Come Saturday we’ll shed a tear and say goodbye to an amazing group of seniors. This song by Eve 6 holds a special place in my heart and recognizes the sadness in parting. We will always remember our beloved class of 2012 and all that they did for JMU during their time here.
·      “Freedom” – George Michael: I’m surprised that many people don’t know about this song. It’s been one of my favorites ever since I saw the movie “Nanny Diaries” when Scarlett Johansson and Alicia Keys blast it in their convertible through the streets of NYC. (Let’s just say that I completely copied that movie moment when I got my car on my 16th birthday…) For all those students who are greeting summer with arms wide open, hope on the highway and blast this anthem of, you guessed it, freedom!
