For all my fellow undergrads out there, the most stressful part of the year has graced us with its arrival: housing selection. After living an entire year showering between curtains, going to the bathroom next to urinals, and cramming clothes into a coffin-sized closet, we all dream of living in South, Hilltop, or Busby in the Fall. Yeah, dream big. Don’t get your hopes up because you will most likely be stuck in North, Northwest, Towers, or West. But hey, it’s not all that bad. Here are the great parts about living in a deluxe prison cell.
North Campus:
While your dorm may be smaller than any normal walk-in closet and while you only have a thin curtain partitioning you from a stranger when showering, North isn’t that bad. The dining hall is great because it always has omelets for breakfast, a great variety of cereals, grilled chicken, and lox every Sunday (for all my Jews in town) – all the basics. North is also great because of its location. For all you science nerds, you can roll out of bed and go to class across the street. When the weather is nice, the quad is a great place to lay out and watch the boys show off their football skills (or lack thereof in most cases). As an added bonus, North is pretty close to the bar (for all my people over 21 stuck in North, there’s a plus).
Northwest Campus:
North and Northwest aren’t much different, except that the dining hall has Grab & Go (hallelujah) AND the dining hall is open until 10:15 p.m! Northwest also is in a great location, and is even CLOSER to the bars, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Wally’s (probably the best reason to live in Northwest).
Towers:
Two words: pasta bar. The dining hall also has a Grab & Go (so much better than Northwest’s Grab & Go, might I add). Another great part about Towers is that you will automatically make two very good friends: The Red Line and the Blue Line (unless you like walking up that monstrous hill).
West Campus:
Prime location. It’s so close to the center of campus and you’re close to South dining hall and McMahon (not really sure what’s going on with McMahon, though). Even though the rooms are smaller than North (which I didn’t think was possible) are really outdated, and have numerous plumbing issues (uh, ew), each building has a fully equipped kitchen!
See? Dorm life is not all bad. So while you all may be dreading another year in a dorm, don’t fret, it could be worse (like living in East). If you could survive living in one of those dorms for a year, you could probably survive living there again (maybe).
From my microscopic dormitory to yours, I wish you all luck in your journeys to finding a new home.
