Mix a Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Pre-Physical Therapy major, a Coaching Education minor, the head of a sorority that just achieved ‘Sorority of the Year’ for the second consecutive year, and you’ve stepped into the life of Delta Gamma’s President, Caitlyn Pugsley. A junior from Virginia Beach, VA, Caitlyn had a little experience holding an executive position before taking over the reigns as President; she had only served as the Vice President of Communications for her chapter last year.
At the Fraternity and Sorority Life Excellence Awards that took place earlier this semester, it seemed as if Delta Gamma was a name on repeat.  It was clear they were all very proud of their accomplishments. On winning again Cailtyn says, “I was extremely elated that we won it for a second year in a row.  The executive board from the term before made incredible progress in the past year and I was pleased to see that it was recognized. The win makes me want to continue to do what the previous President did and continue to encourage my sisters to be the best they can be.”
What many people don’t realize is that attaining a goal like this is not always easy in a large group of busy women. Caitlyn clearly recognizes that greatness takes hard work and dedication. On her advice to other sororities on how they can build themselves she says, “my advice for others would be two things: the first is something that an older (now alumna) sister told me before I joined, which is that you get out of it what you put into it. If you work hard and do your best to lead your sisters in a respectful, value based, and inclusive manor, you can get there. The second thing is just to live a balanced life/sisterhood. I meet with the other presidents regularly and they are all amazing and have great chapters!”
As a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha, another sorority on campus, I was very curious to know what kinds of sisterhood events Delta Gamma puts on to strengthen their already strong bond. “We do movie nights in the basement, we’ve gone bowling, we have chapter dinners, we have gone roller skating and many more,” Caitlyn recalls. Something that is immensely important to being a strong leader is having an equally strong role model. Pugsley’s greatest inspirational figure in her life is her grandfather, whom she says is an extremely intelligent, strong, wise, caring and dedicated family man who she says she loves more than anything.
After graduation Caitlyn hopes to go to Physical Therapy school and work with wounded warriors and potentially join the US Navy. Â If one thing is for sure, Caitlyn Pugsley is a woman with many passions and responsibilities who any collegiette can look up to!
