Helping Out Around H’Burg!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

Harrisonburg, Virginia is known for lots of things – the scenic Shenandoah Valley, that big thing called JMU, and did we mention community service? While it’s easy for some of us to get caught up in our purple and yellow bubbles, the Harrisonburg community could really use our help and there are tons of opportunities out there.

If you’re looking to help out, there are tons of ways to get involved! If you are interested in a particular field, look up some non-profits or charities specific to your needs and ask if they could use any help.

Also, check out JMU’s Community Service Learning programs. The CSL staff can help you find lots of opportunities ranging from working at the Farmer’s Market to helping out at the International Festival.  They can help you find out just about anything!

Another great opportunity is Big Brother Big Sister. What better way to give back and also be a mentor than by helping out some kids from around the neighborhood? This experience is one-of-a-kind and is good for people who have some flexibility in their schedule.

All in all, the ‘Burg would love to see more of JMU than besides us causing major traffic jams on Port Rebuilc every morning.  What better way to give back than by helping out our very own H’Burg?
