Less is More
Don’t overdo your makeup. Even though makeup enhances your appearance, it can also hide your natural beauty if you aren’t careful. Make sure that you wear a foundation that is your skin tone instead of what you want your skin tone to be. To even your complexion without masking its true tone, use a water-based tinted moisturizer that’s semi-matte, rather than one with shimmer base.
When you’re blending foundation, make sure it’s smooth and even. If you apply bronzer, also apply it to your neck so you aren’t two different colors. We all think that we look better when we are tanner, but if your face is orange and the rest of your skin is pale, you can look fake.
Define your Eyes, Don’t Cover Them
Go with natural colors for your eye shadow instead of using bold or super bright colors. Different colors may be fun to play with, but they take away from your natural beauty. A tip that I got from Blake Lively is to apply a dash of highlighter on your inner corners to the middle of your lower lashline. Eyes then appear brighter and attention is immediately drawn to them.
You want to look like your beauty is effortless, so also make sure to go easy on the eyeliner. Use a pencil eyeliner sparingly on the top lid. If you’re blonde, try a dark brown pencil so that it will blend more evenly with your brows. Dark, black lines around your eyes create an unnatural, sunken look.
Lengthy Lashes
Eyelashes are one of your most important features because it widens your eyes and exhilarates your feminity. Instead of applying mascara, use an eyelash curler. If you want more curl, use a blow dryer to heat up your curler before you apply. It works like a hair curler because the lashes take to the heat easier. Be careful because it will be hot. If you want bolder lashes, there is no harm in adding mascara. If you want longer lashes without the extra clump, blink while applying your mascara and tilt the brush at three angles. Keep it simple!
Protect your Skin
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Moisturizing daily is the first step to keeping skin happy and healthy and ensuring a natural glow. The best time to moisturize is when you first get out of the shower. This locks in the moisture for the day. If you continually moisturize throughout the day, you can clog your pores. Keeping your skin from drying out allows it to radiate a healthy glow, one step toward maintaining natural beauty.
If you can, get a moisturizer with SPF in it. Since we are constantly under the Florida sun, we have to make sure that we are protecting our skin. If you have a naturally lighter skin tone, be sure to keep SPF on constantly to avoid burning your skin. We only get one outer layer of skin, so make sure you’re taking care of it now to avoid wrinkles and spots for the future.
Natural Nails
Let your nails go naked and just add a clear coat. Or you can go with a simple color like OPI’s Barefoot in Barcelona and In the Spot-Light Pink. Trim your nails to a reasonable length and keep them moisturized and clean.
If you decide to go with no polish, a little filing and buffing will give you a natural French manicure without base, polish, top coat and quick-dry. Keep away from fake nails and tips because they can ruin your nails even after just one time.
Locks of Lust
Don’t cloud your hair with strong chemicals, hot irons and curlers. Instead use a small amount of wave spray, which you can find at any convenience store. Putting so much heat on your hair damages it and causes it to frizz. Instead, go with how your hair naturally flows and play with it.
You can apply a subtle spray and it will work wonders if you scrunch it lightly. If you have flat hair, you can get rollers that do not require heat to give yourself an extra “umph.” For extra smooth hair, use Moroccan Oil. It may be a little pricy, but it is so worth it!
Besides all these tricks, some of the most important things you can do to be naturally beautiful are eating well, sleeping and exercising. These will not only help you feel sexy, but keep your body healthy, both inside and out. Be proud of your natural attributes and flaunt them.
