Hairspray is an amazing musical but it can be not so great for your hair. The harsh chemicals can severely dry and damage your hair. The scalp is irritated because of the amount of build-up hair spray. There are shampoos that deep clean to remove build-up, but they strip the hair of its natural moisture.
Hair products also contribute to break outs. If you wear hair spray, be sure to keep your hair away from your face. Natural dirt and oil accumulate on your skin throughout the day. The chemicals in your hair products will cause an imbalance on the skin. The skin then gets out of control and produces more oil. It results in the skin being more prone to grow bacteria, which may lead to break-outs. Hair spray can get pricey, and for the college girl a bargain is a must!
Thankfully, Mother Nature is always there to help a girl in distress. A natural hair spray will keep your hair healthy and your wallet happy. There are only 4 major ingredients needed. The ingredients are easily accessible and modest in price.
For all hair types:
½ cup of water
2 tbs. of sugar
Lavender oil (optional)
Vanilla oil (optional)
Fine Mist Spray Bottle
Bring water to a boil. Add sugar and stir to dissolve, remove from heat and let cool. Carefully pour mixture into spray bottle. For added fragrance add a few drops of lavender oil. In the summer, to avoid being a target of bees (the real ones, not our super awesome sports teams!) add a few drops of vanilla. Remember, this is basically sugar water. They will follow you and think you are a flower. I know you are all so beautiful– it can be an honest mistake–but smelling like a flower will get you stung!
Shake before each use and keep refrigerated. It will last about a week before it expires. For best results, add in layers. Spritz evenly throughout all hair. Smooth all over hair with your fingers and wait about a minute between applications to let spray dry. Apply as many coats needed to reach desired hold.
This hair spray does not guarantee a whole night dancing with every hair in place, but it gets the job done for class, work or hanging out.
