The Dean’s List: February 2012

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fordham chapter.

Alright collegiettes, it’s February, and you know what that means: President’s Day! Kidding, whether you’re single, juggling a few prospects, or in a serious relationship, you know February means Valentine’s Day. You might love this holiday or find it to be totally unnecessary but we can all agree on one reason to enjoy it: chocolate.

What to Watch: The Vow
If you haven’t seen The Vow trailers, you’ve been in the library for too long. The romantic drama starring The Notebook veteran Rachel McAdams, and super-hunk Channing Tatum is the movie to see this month. With their backgrounds in romantic films like the notebook and dear john, the duo is sure to be a match made in chick flick heaven. After seeing the trailer of course we went to see it, and you should too! If you’re single this is the perfect way to spend the holiday…bring your best single gal pal and some tissues.

February Hottie:
It’s obvious which guy we’re all drooling over this month: Channing Tatum! After his performance in The Vow we have to give it up to Channing; not only is he gorgeous, but he totally melted us playing Leo, a husband dedicated to making his wife fall in love with him again after a tragic car crash stole her memory of the last few years, including their time together. Let’s not forget how hot he was playing a soldier in Dear John, or how many laughs he gave us in She’s the Man. If you can’t find the time to treat yourself to a Channing movie, at least make him your laptop background.

Trending Topic: Sadly, this month we lost a musical legend. Whitney Houston passed away at the age of 48. Celebrities and fans alike took to twitter and Facebook to mourn the singers’ passing. Whitney’s voice was one of the greatest, and thankfully it will live on in the musical legacy she left behind. Let this be a reminder of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. But, remember Whitney in a positive light; we love her amazing acting and singing performance in Roger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. And don’t be afraid to give Whitney your own tribute, live from your shower. Belt out “I Will Always Love You” inhibition-free; we can’t all be Jennifer Hudsons!

Trends:
New for spring we’re seeing a trend we love, colored denim. Ditch your boring blue jeans for a bright spring hue. Colored denim takes a boring outfit to exciting in seconds. Mix these bottoms with a fun patterned scarf or bold bangles and watch the colors pop!

Read This: The Hunger Games
Look out Twilight, there’s a new series in town and the film adaptation is about to hit theatres. The Hunger Games is set for release next month, so we recommend reading the book before the movie comes out. The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins is set in a fictional futuristic world where each year several boys and girls between the ages of twelve and eighteen are chosen by lottery to compete in the hunger games. Here’s the catch, only one contestant can survive. Fans rave about the series; you can believe the hype, or you can find out for yourself and read the books.
