Winter is fashion’s season. However, that doesn’t mean we all don’t end up becoming black specters of debilitating cold. Long black puffers, black boots, black scarves, black knit turbands, the works. I’m the worst offender.
When it’s this gross, cold, and wet outside, all we really want to do is slough around in Ugg boots. Where’s the fun in that?
Are Ugg boots slutty? One writer examines the trend
Enter Doreen Chang. This girl knows the best way to battle the seasonal affective disorder our wardrobes seem to be experiencing. How? Pretty simply, actually.
Color. All we want is a little bit of Springtime, so why not give it to ourselves with candy colored winter wear? Doreen got her bright turquoise cotton candy Ugg boots from Nordstrom for an easy $60. Everything she loves about them is what the rest of us love about our perpetual funeral garb: they’re “comfy”, her “favorite thing to pair them with” is a basic pair of leggings, and she wears them “all the time”.
Now she got lucky, scoring these on sale. I’m not saying we should all go out and spend $100+ dollars on sheepskin boots (but check out those links on the bottom, because they’re pretty sick), but why not be daring and get our winter wear in fun colors that remind us of a less dismal time? When Doreen walks by on Locust, the whimsical aspect of her boots remind you that spring is coming and soon you’ll be able to wear that turquoise maxi that you’re obsessed with.
When it comes to scarves, hats, coats, and snow boots, crazy colors and style aren’t obnoxious: they’re just fun. Let’s get out of our black-clothed rut and be a little daring. It’s the best we can do to get ourselves through this grayness.
