Fashion Blog: Romantic Inspired Pieces to Wear After Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

Valentine’s Day is filled with chocolates, flowers and … red and pink striped socks you got from your grandma. While it may be the thought that counts, sometimes the gifts you receive are only Valentine’s Day appropriate. Here’s how you can incorporate those gifts into your everyday wardrobe, all within a collegiette budget.

Lace

We’ve all been there before. We get lacy bras and undies from mom, but aren’t sure how to take them from nighttime pajamas to daytime apparel without going overboard. Lace is a tricky trend, but it is fun and flirty style that can amp up a basic outfit.

Have a lacy bra peek out from under a basic cami to add a more romantic vibe. This one from Cosabella adds a fun, fresh pop of color.

If you’re shy about wearing lace, try a top. This top has a tie waist that flatters everyone, and the bold black ribbon paired against the white lace is pure romance. Plus, it is dressy enough for work paired with a black suit or for the night with skinny jeans and heels.

For a burst of sheer color and a romantic vibe, this top is another great night option.

Red

Red doesn’t have to be limited to Valentine’s Day; it can be worn year-round. If you’re not ready to make a full commitment, a red accessory adds just the right amount of color.

This clutch is a perfect way to boost a plain outfit. With just a white T and dark jeans, the bag brings the look to a trendy new level without breaking the bank.

Tone down this slip’s sexiness by pairing it with a black blazer and skinny jeans. Plus, it comes in six other colors.

Sheer

Mastering the sheer look is another tough trend, so start small with an accessory. These two pairs of printed tights are anything but basic.

Big Heart Sheer Tights, $14.32, ASOS

The girlie color of this top adds to the romantic vibe. Pair with black skinny jeans for a rock n’ roll look or with white jeans to transition to spring.

Floral Lace Top, $15.80, Forever 21

Instead of wearing your heart on your sleeves, let your legs do the work.

Pinspot Sheer Tights, $16, Topshop

Polka dots are making a huge comeback this year, and these tights can help transition your winter wardrobe to spring this season.

Although this top is adorable for sleepwear, you can actually wear it out at night as well. It’s not too revealing, and the girlie ruffles tone down the sexiness.

Ruffles

This is another fun girlie trend, that can take you from Valentine’s Day to work and weekend.

Emily Cleary is a 22-year-old news-editorial journalism major hoping to work in the fashion industry, whether that be in editorial, marketing, PR or event planning is TBD. With internships at Teen Vogue and StyleChicago.com, it's clear that she is a fashion fanatic. When she's not studying (she's the former VP of her sorority, Delta Delta Delta), writing for various publications or attending meetings for clubs like Business Careers in Entertainment Club, Society of Professional Journalists, The Business of Fashion Club, or for her role as the Assistant Editor of the Arts & Entertainment section of her school's magazine, she's doing something else; you will never find her sitting still. She loves: running (you know those crazy cross-country runners...), attending concerts and music festivals, shopping (of course), hanging out with friends, visiting her family at home, traveling (she studied abroad in London when she was able to travel all over Europe), taking pictures, tweeting, reading stacks and stacks of magazines and newspapers while drinking a Starbuck's caramel light frappacino, blogs and the occasional blogging, eating anything chocolate and conjuring up her next big project. Living just 20 minutes outside of Chicago, she's excited to live there after graduation, but would love to spend some time in New York, LA, London or Paris (she speaks French)!
