Mee-Ow Producer Ali Parr

What are you involved in on campus? Theatre, Film, Comedy, Writing

How did you first become involved in Mee-Ow? I worked on the production team last year as a freshman, and I really enjoyed the experience. The cast and crew are always great, and it’s a fun group to work with. Then I petitioned to produce Mee-Ow to Arts Alliance (the theatre board that backs the shows) last spring. 

What has your experience been like in Mee-Ow?
It’s been a pretty positive experience, but a lot of work. Most producers at Northwestern have one show, but Mee-Ow has two and they also do various gigs throughout the year. I’ve been lucky because I have had great support from the board though.

What process did you have to go through to become producer and why did you want the position? I petitioned last year to Arts Alliance for the job, and they chose me. I wanted to work on Mee-Ow again because I had such a great time doing it last year, and I wanted to try producing because I had never done it before and it seemed like something I would like to try my hand at. Producing comes with a lot of responsibilities and I wanted to gain the experience.

How has your experience as producer been? Highs? Lows?
The experience has been pretty good for the most part. I have really enjoyed being in charge of a team of people all working towards the same goal. Also, cast and singer auditions were really fun times. The worst part is probably keeping track of finances, bookwork like that is just not exciting to me. 

What is this year’s show about? When is it? Where on campus?
The show is called “Three’s Company, Ten’s Mee-Ow” and it’s in the Louis Room in Norris February 23-25.

Why should students’ come see the show?
Because it’s so fun! The Mee-Ow show is like one big party, for the cast and for the audience. It’s not uncommon to see faces coming to repeat performances, because every show is different from the last. 

What would be your advice to students when looking for leadership roles or for doing improv? If you find something that you really love and are passionate about, don’t stop doing it. Working hard doesn’t even seem difficult when it’s something that you love. Also, always ask people how you can help if you want to get involved with a group on campus. Chances are they would love to have you.
