Whether people like to admit it or not, everyone knows that football was made to be a “man’s game”. However, this is no longer a “man’s world”; women have grown to like football and even enjoy playing it. Many things have evolved and so has football. There are even some girls that get into football more than guys. In the modern world of sports, there’s a football league for women now too. Some people (mainly men) still believe that football is and will ever only be a “man’s sport”. Naturally, many women disagree.
The Independent Women’s Football League, founded in 1992, is a league for women and they play just like the men do: fully padded, same level of contact, and same rules. They have about 35 teams in this league from all over the United States. “All issues are women’s issues,” is there motto which is showing that just because we are females doesn’t mean we can not do a man’s job or play a man’s sport. Their purpose is to show that people shouldn’t be sexist against women in any manner just because it was originally brought up as a man’s thing.
‘I won’t play if she is playing,’ is a juvenile line that is said frequently when a girl wants to play football with the guys. Athletic women are not as fragile as one may think, and can play a “man’s’ sport” with ease. Football is gradually becoming more of an equal sport among the sexes, and it should be recognized that way. Some women can play almost as good or even better than some men, but at times won’t get to play and show a good game because the guys don’t want to “hurt” the girls. As women, we understand that you guys are rough but hey, sometimes we can be just as rough!
The Superbowl is the most watched game of the year, and it is appreciated by both men and women. Hosts prepare for the big game with wings, pizza, chips, and other delicious and greasy food. Houses roar with cheers for their favorite teams. Regardless of the sex of the person, everyone gets into the game like crazy.
There is a male and female team for every sport and soon, football will be next. So guys, the next time you’re getting ready to watch that football game or the Superbowl, just remember, you can invite your girlfriend or female friends; they might just show you a different side of themselves that you’ll probably like.
