Valentine’s Day Plans for All the Single Ladies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

Yep, it is that time again…  That fourteenth day of February, worshiped by those in relationships and hated by singles unanimously.  I cannot ensure that you won’t run into your fair share of roses and hand-holding, but I am here to offer some fun alternatives for singles on the big V day!

Host a singles party
Call up all of your single girl friends and tell them to each bring a single guy they know.  This could be a great event to call up your latest crush and invite him.  If you aren’t currently crushing, just bring a friend; one woman’s trash may be another woman’s treasure.  Who knows, you may have the Valentine’s date you dreamed of, after all!

Indulge in wine and chocolate

Even though we may not have anyone special to buy us chocolate, it doesn’t mean we can’t still indulge in it!  Buy yourself a giant box of chocolates and enjoy each one of them as you watch your favorite chick-flick.  Pour yourself a glass of wine and cry yourself to sleep as you watch Ryan Gosling swoon over Rachel McAdams.  Let’s face it, there were going to be tears anyways… might as well have a good excuse!

Get dressed up and cook with your friends
Every girl loves getting dressed up, but not every girl has a boy to dress up for.  Host a formal dinner for all of your single friends.  Maybe you will get lucky with a friend that loves to cook; I recommend steering clear of restaurants.  Enjoy a nice meal at home and take turns sharing at least one good thing about being single.  After hearing a number of positives, I guarantee you will feel better about yourself and your relationship status.

Buy yourself something special
A little retail therapy always does the trick when I’m feeling blue.  Take a trip to the outlets and buy that jacket you’ve been wanting for the last month.  Even if you are single, might as well look great and embrace it!

Have a mock-date with a good guy friend
We all have that best guy friend that we could never date, but have made a pact to marry if you’re both still single by thirty.  Well now is the time to have a little fun!  Call him up, make a reservation at Char, and spend the evening mocking all of the sickly-in-love couples surrounding you.  Even though the two of you may never have dating potential, at least you can spend the evening laughing instead of crying!

Now that you have a number of things to do on Valentine’s Day, hopefully it will be much more enjoyable than what you have anticipated.
