HC Suffolk: Campus Celebrity Angela Christoforos

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

Working on WHDH-TV 7 News alongside Hank Phillippi Ryan – investigative reporter, Angela Christoforos is without question a Campus Celebrity.  “I got to work on investigative stories, research and pitch my ow n story ideas, and go out on story shoots.”  You may have also seen this dynamic

young journalist with a microphone on the Boston sidewalks conducting interviews on Freedom Trail TV.  How does one achieve what Angela has? “I spend a lot of time at Studio 73 on Tremont Street.  A lot of television classes that I take here at Suffolk are shot in the studio; like Temple Street, TV News Producing, and SU News.”

The road to success is never without much hard work and dedication. In addition to balancing schoolwork and friends, Angela is a busy working girl, with three jobs.  When she is not helping at her family’s restaurant, she can be found strutting her stuff in cute apparel as a promotional sales model.

Angela has had a wealth of experience within her major.  Her internships include New England Cable News, John Wilpers Media Consulting, and Dirty Water TV as on-air talent for Boston’s one and only nightlife entertainment television program.  Angela does not stop there!  Outside of Suffolk she co-hosts segments for aTV program called North Shore 100 on Boston North TV that airs on Boston Neighborhood Network which Angela describes as “a program designed to bring viewer’s interviews with interesting personalities and events throughout the Boston and North Shore area.”

This glamorous girl in front of the camera grew up in Salem, MA, and is now spotted to be living in the North End of Boston.  Surrounded by decadent Italian restaurants, the famously delicious Mike’s Cannoli’s, Boston city life, and trendy shopping, what’s not to love?

One hundred percent Greek, Angela has traveled to Greece six times.  Her favorite destinations in Greece include Kalamata (dad’s homeland) and Samos (mo m’s homeland – a small island near Turkey).  Angela had a lot of fun information to provide about studyi ng abroad in Madrid, Spain.  She absolutely loved every second of the five-week astronomy class, “which was to travel to the Canary Islands and observe stars from an observatory!”  Angela summarized her overall study abroad experience in this way: “I go to experience a new culture, climb to the top of the third largest volcano in the world, and even pick up on a little Spanish!”  Simply cool and amazing!

Angela loves fashion, always looking stylish and chic in front of the cameras.  Having an intense passion for celebrities and the entire Hollywood scene, she loves broadcasting entertainment news, and has a “niche for hard news”.

After finding out all of this information about Angela, it was time for some fun questions…

Me:  As a future broadcast journalist, if you have had the opportunity to spend a day interviewing anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

Angela:  I would love to interview Barbara Walters because I’ve always looked up to her and loved her style of interviewing. And after reading her biography, I’ve realized that we have a lot in common.

Me:  If you could interview someone from the past who is no longer alive, who would that be?

Angela:  Oooh that’s a good one! Hmm…I think I’d like to interview Marilyn Monroe, because she’s still remained an icon for women and still will be for years to come.

Me:  If you can work as a journalist in any part of the world, where would that be?

Angela:  I love to travel and have a whole bucket list of places I’d like to go to. I’d love to relocate to LA and work from there, but I’d also love to travel to exotic places, like Hawaii and Argentina.

Me:  If you could magically be someone else for an entire day (and nobody would know it) who would that be?

Angela: Kim Kardashian!  I love her style!

How many times has the quote, “Don’t let dreams be dreams,” (Jack Johnson) appeared in high school yearbooks?  Far too many.  But the real question is, how many people who chose this quote to be theirs, are actually making it happen? Angela Christoforosdid not let her “dreams be dreams”, but rather embraced her visions and ran with them.  Angela, you have an impressive style all your own and inspire me.  You go girl!

My name is Alexa Mellardo and I am currently a sophomore and Broadcast Journalism major at Suffolk University, located in the heart of one of the most charming cities in the world: Boston. A passionate journalist, I am fortunate to be doing what I love to do….writing! When I’m not composing articles for two awesome online publications (hercampus.com and also collegefashionista.com) and attending classes, I intern at a trendy magazine in the city. In between, I love to shop and spend time with my friends and my boyfriend. I have two addictions: shopping and cupcakes. In light of that, what better place to be than just blocks away from Newbury Street, Charles Street and Quincy Market? My quaint, vintage brownstone apartment in Beacon Hill is where my two best friends and I keep it strictly classy and fashionable. We turned our apartment into a comfy fashionable haven, and we enjoy relaxing and entertaining our friends. Living in such an awesome city provides a wealth of opportunity, fun, and culture to embrace. My dream is to one day be a respected, well-known broadcast journalist.
Mackenzie's the name, Campus Correspondant for Suffolk is my game.
