Sigma Nu: Academics, Philanthropy & Fun

After our very successful Dress Up to Donate & Drink event that was hosted with Sigma Nu at the Bear Brew Pub, we have decided to make the Sigma Nu Fraternity our Her Campus Campus Celebrity this week!

Sigma Nu is a Delta Nu Chapter that was founded at the University of Maine in 1913. Before it was Sigma Nu, the house they live in was used as an army barracks.

Dan Downey, the current president of Sigma Nu, said, “Sigma Nu differs from other fraternities because we are a small down to earth group of guys that all know each other extremely well. A lot of other fraternities have a lot more members but we enjoy having a small group of strong minded individuals.” Their tight-knit group allows them to really commit to philanthropic events as well as be a desired fraternity for new Black Bears to rush! In the past two years, Sigma Nu has been 2nd on campus for fraternity GPA and the majority of their brothers are engineering students that work incredibly hard to make a good name for the fraternity and themselves.

Sigma Nu tries to hold at least 2 events if not more throughout each semester. This year they have held two events at the Bear Brew. The first was a Halloween party to raise money for the American Cancer Society, andsecond the event with Her Campus, a food drive for the Manna Food Pantries. Each year the brothers also partner up with other organization such as, Relay For Life, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House.

What really sets Sigma Nu apart is the way in which they do things to bring UMaine students together. One of these ways is the giant slip n’ slide they put out on warm days for everyone to come and have some fun in the sun!

It is clear that Sigma Nu really is a Campus Celebrity. Hats off to you boys and keep up the amazing work!
