Believe it or not, it’s almost 2012, which means we can look forward to a whole new slew of movies, music, books, and other fabulous means of procrastination. Everybody needs a study break, right? So give yourself a break and check Her Campus BC’s recap of some of the best music videos of 2011! You can reminisce about Nicki Minaj’s rise to fame, dance with LMFAO, celebrate the holiday season with the Biebz, or maybe even discover a new artist like Kina Grannis or Karmin.
Most Creative – “Into Your Arms”: I just recently discovered Kina Grannis and am already a huge fan. She has a sweet, soulful voice and her music video for “Into Your Arms” is super innovative. M&Ms anyone?
Newbie – “Crash Your Party”: Karmin’s latest single, “Crash Your Party,” is beyond addicting. The music video is eclectically fun and after watching it once, you won’t be able to get the chorus out of your head. Plus, Amy Heidermann’s funky personality is endlessly entertaining.
Country Feel Good – “Ours”: A recap of the top music videos of 2011 wouldn’t be complete without at least one Taylor Swift hit. Her latest music video for “Ours” is cute, fun, and touching. In true Swift fashion, she transforms ordinary life into something magically whimsical. So if you’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed with finals, I recommend watching this– it will be just the pick-me-up you need!
Pre-Gaming It Up – “Party Rock Anthem”: In 2011 LMFAO has produced party hit after party hit and it seems like “Party Rock Anthem” was on every collegiette’s™ pre-game playlist. Although the song is a party staple, not many people have seen the video, which is sure to make you want to hop up on your table in O’Neill and break out your best dance moves.
Pretty in Pink – “Superbass”: Nicki Minaj, rap’s latest powerhouse female, took the world by storm this year with her fierce Barbie style and witty, provocative raps. What better way to celebrate her success than watching the video that started it all? If you feel like taking a longer study break, check out the clip from the Ellen Show.
British Envy – “Paradise”: Coldplay’s latest single, “Paradise,” is relaxing, magical, and will temporarily transport you somewhere far from O’Neill or Bapst. The music video follows someone dressed as an elephant throughout all of London, navigating many recognizable, tourist locations. If that doesn’t spark your interest, I have no idea what will.
Christmas Cheer – “All I Want for Christmas is You”: We’ve all heard of, maybe even mocked, Justin Bieber’s latest holiday album. While his music video for the single “Mistletoe” seems to have received the most attention, his latest video features the Queen of Christmas herself: Mariah Carey. It’s definitely not the best cover of “All I Want for Christmas is You,” but hey, it’s entertaining!
