Michael Barajas: I’m currently on UC Berkeley’s [M]ovement as a hip-hop dancer. I used to be a semi-talented swimmer and water polo player. I also breakdance and LOVE TO COOK. I am an active member in CHE (a premedical organization) and have held intern positions. I have also worked on large-scale summer projects in the Pallud lab, and coordinated UC Berkeley’s 2011 Summer Research Symposium. I am currently employed by UC Berkeley’s Art Museum and volunteer regularly in areas that suffer from socioeconomic disadvantages.Â
HC: Favorite Berkeley Memory?
MB: I have so many! One of my favorite memories is from freshman year, when my new Berkeley friends and I took a trip to Hercules and did nothing… but it felt like we did everything. They are still and will continue to be my closest ball of friends, even if we hardly see each other.Â
HC: What is one quote or motto that you live by?
MB: “Quam Piam.” This is a motto that I have tattooed on myself. Although it is in Thai, it is a very evocative statement because it reminds that I must persevere academically no matter what struggles I encounter.Â
HC: Post-grad plans?
MB: My post-grad plans include attending UCSF for medical school and using my communications degree to pursue a career in medical networking with the hopes of attaining enough funds to open a free clinic in an area dominated by low income minority groups, because growing up I witnessed several health discrepancies among these communities.Â
HC: Perfect Date Idea?
MB: I really have no “ideal” or “perfect” date. Just show me a good time and I’ll be content.Â
Â
HC: If you could have one super power what would it be, and why?
MB: I’d want to be able to absorb information like a sponge so I can get straight A’s!
