“Access your dream wardrobe for all of life’s special occasions,” claims Rent the Runway’s website. What girl could say no to that? Certainly not any of the girls who attended Rent the Runway’s event at Penn on November 18.
Rent the Runway is an online company that offers women the opportunity to rent designer dresses at up to 90% off its retail price. With 145 designers and 20,000 dresses in stock, Rent the Runway promises to supply women with the perfect dress for any occasion.
“It’s essentially Netflix for dresses,” said freshman Becca Finkel, Rent the Runway’s social media representative on Penn’s Campus. Finkel’s job involves organizing publicity events and managing Penn’s Rent the Runway Facebook page.
Last year, Rent the Runway contacted the Wharton Retail Club at Penn and asked them to create a group that would promote Rent the Runway to Penn students. The Wharton Retail Club rose to the task and put together a team of girls who plan events and publicize the company on Penn’s campus.
On November 18, the Rent the Runway representative team set up an event at the Delta Delta Delta house at 3811 Walnut Street, where any girl was welcome to try on dresses that Rent the Runway shipped to campus specifically for the event. Trendy music was played, cupcakes were served and girls who tried on dresses could pose for pictures that will appear on Penn’s Rent the Runway Facebook page.
“Rent the Runway is perfect for college-age girls who want that one, perfect dress but can’t afford the price on a student budget. It gives college girls the opportunity to wear beautiful designer dresses without breaking the bank!” said Whitney Mash, co-manager of Rent the Runway’s Penn rep team.
The event on November 18 proved successful, as many girls signed up for RentTheRunway.com and enjoyed engaging their inner-models by trying on dresses and having their pictures taken.
“Everything is just so adorable,” said freshman Adrienne Leff, who attended the event. “Rent the Runway allows girls to have so many affordable choices.”
“We hope to have bigger events in the future but it was a great starting point and way to get our name out there on campus. There will be another event in the spring and we are in the planning process for that,” said Mash.
Rent the Runway is the perfect solution for college girls who neither have access to trendy stores nearby nor the budgets to buy a designer dress.
“The idea is, why not rent an amazing dress instead of buying something ordinary?” said Finkel.
Rent the Runway provides girls with their dream dresses for any occasion – be it a hot date, a wedding or a formal charity event. No one has to know the dress was only yours for one night.
