Wet Weather Chic: How to Look Cute in the Rain

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

We all know that Boone’s weather patterns can be about as unpredictable as what we will wear to class tomorrow. But nothing is more frustrating than waking up early to shower and get ready for class, only to walk out the door and realize it is supposed to rain all day. Let’s face it ladies, the weather has the power to ruin our days and, not to mention, our perfectly planned outfits. Well, I say it’s time to take a stand against Mother Nature and prove once and for all that looking chic is not sunshine-dependent and being comfortable in the rain does not mean we have to look sloppy. Here are our top three ways to look great and remain comfortable in the wettest of weather.

1. Invest in a pair of rain boots.

I mean this quite literally. A good pair of rain boots is less of a frivolous purchase and more of an investment, especially considering our weather here in Boone. The good news is, these days, rain boots are made to be fashionable. Not only do they come in all different colors and patterns, but now you can also get them monogrammed to add some cute southern spice to your outfit. Zoubaby.com has some of the cutest monogrammed boots I have seen this season and, the best part is, you can customize them to specifically fit your sense of style. Choose from four different fonts and eight different thread colors for your initials to create boots that are one hundred percent you! Oh, and did I mention that they do Greek letters too? As the holiday season approaches, these boots would make the perfect gift for yourself, your best friend, or one of your sorority sisters. With a great design on the outside, and knitted, nylon lining on the inside, these boots will undoubtedly be the chicest and warmest investment you have made all year!

2. A great waterproof jacket goes a long way.
Okay ladies, contrary to popular belief, waterproof does NOT always have to mean that incredibly thin and scratchy Mountain Hardware shell you have hanging in your closet. While these jackets are great for a light spring shower, there are hundreds of much more fashionable coats that will keep you just as dry! If you are looking for a chic rain jacket, look no further than a quilted trench. These great jackets can be found almost anywhere, at all different price points. From higher end brands such as Moncler and Burberry to the more affordable end like The North Face, these jackets will keep you dry AND warm, because many of them are insulated and can double as a winter jacket. So, add them to your wish list because this is one gift you will be loving for many seasons to come.

3. Matching umbrella anyone?
Yes, it sounds a little cheesy, but think about how sleek and cute you will look stomping through the puddles with your new boots, gorgeous jacket, and matching umbrella. Let’s face it, none of us like the hat hair that usually comes from wearing a hood all day. So, one of the best alternatives I have found is a good, sturdy umbrella. Coordinate the color of your umbrella to the monogramming on your ZouBaby boots and you will have a look that is truly eye catching.

Don’t simply settle for sweats and a t-shirt when the weather is bad. These three staples are the perfect items to keep you cute and comfortable during Mother Nature’s nastiest weather. Believe it or not, they may even have you wishing for a rainy morning!
