Ah, yes…the holidays are finally here!! As well all know, the 24th of November marks the beginning of the 2011 holiday season, and I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t be more excited. There’s nothing better than the smell of a freshly-roasted turkey, the allure of a table full of Thanksgiving food, or the enjoyment of spending quality time with family and friends. Yet true to form for any fashionista, the holidays, although incredibly enjoyable, bring up lots of stress over what to wear. Here’s my two cents as to what you should wear-and where you should wear it during this year’s Turkey Day:
Grandma’s House: Let’s face it, ladies–Grandma never wants to see cleavage or anything tight-fitting. If Thanksgiving dinner is at her house this year, I suggest wearing something dressy yet appropriate. Consider a crewneck dress or sweater dress, tights, and boots, or perhaps a nice skirt, flats, and a fancier sweater that covers all the parts grandma doesn’t want to see. You’ll look presentable and formal enough, and the effort of dressing nicely will surely win you some extra cranberry sauce on your plate!
Dinner with the Boyfriend: Finding the perfect outfit to wear to your significant other’s house seems like the absolute endless challenge. The struggle between looking cute for him and both impressing and being appropriate for his parents poses quite the difficulty! An outfit that looks both nice and sexy is pairing dark trouser jeans or skinny cords with an appropriate sweater and either LOW heels or flats. Add sparkly yet simple jewelry and clean make-up to give off the image that you definitely tried to look nice, but not too hard!
Neighborhood Gathering: If you’re dining at your neighbor’s house, your outfit can be more casual. However, you still want to put on a good impression when talking to all the adults, so dressing up a casual look will definitely work in this situation! Wearing dark skinny jeans with a long cardigan or cable-knit sweater, nice boots, and a long necklace and earrings will look dressed up but will still be casual enough to relax in after the full feeling of a big dinner sets in!
Thanksgiving on the Town: When the parents decide to do dinner out at a nice restaurant, that’s an automatic excuse to get glammed up! Pair a jeweled sweater with skinny cords and flats for an appropriate outfit that channels the Thanksgiving vibe, looks great, and is again comfortable to eat that turkey in!
Black Friday: One word defines fashion for this day: COMFORT! Waking up early to shop is true dedication, so you want to make sure you’re comfortable doing it! I suggest pairing leggings with comfortable boots, a flannel, and a big scarf to make it through this intense day without having to worry about being comfy!
So with all this said, I hope that all of you have a wonderful and fashionable break. Take a week off from worrying about portions and enjoy eating good food. Yet most importantly, enjoy being with the ones you love and ringing in the holidays as fabulously as possible!
Fashionably yours,
Jen Lassen
