As texting has become prominent form of communication between guys and girls, it might be good to know what you shouldn’t be including in your messages. It’s easy to get carried away with abbreviations and go overboard with “LOL”s, but keep in mind that there is an actual person receiving these texts, and what might be considered fun and flirty could actually be straight up annoying. We asked some of our favorite guy friends to tell us what they don’t like in a text. Here a few of their responses:
“One word responses strike a nerve in certain situations.”
Remember: You might think you’re playing coy, but you actually sound disinterested and not fun.
“I don’t like it when they add a buuuunnccchhh offff extttraaaaa letteerrrrrrs to their words. It makes the text harder to read.”
We agree: Yeah, that must get pretty annoying. Also, using less letters will save you time to send more texts!
“Not getting an answer sucks.”
So what? We know everyone at William and Mary can be busy at times with class and clubs, but try to get back to him within 24 hours….unless, of course, you don’t want to.
“I hate when girls say ‘meow’.”
Takeaway: Ladies, don’t meow.
“Too many exclamation points annoy me”
Why? It’s great to get excited, but one exclamation point can usually do the trick. If you can’t count the number of exclamations in your message on one hand, then you probably should delete some.
“I’m a big fan of when words are actually spelled out. God help us if they use num3rs 4s l3++3r$”
What does HC have to say? I don’t think us TWAMPS need to worry about making this mistake.
On a positive note, pay attention to how you text, but don’t be afraid to be flirty! According to a guy in my hall:
“I love the kissy face, especially when it’s in its original form, : * ”
