Suzie Molino: The Q Stands for Queen

Suzie Molino, a middler at Northeastern, has added Homecoming Queen to her extensive list of college ambitions–a list that is quite hefty already, considering she is in the Pharmacy program, one of the most difficult majors at NEU (I’m sure you all have Pharmacy friends who live in Snell and have to memorize 150 different drugs a week, well, that’s Suzie). Ms. Molino is from Westchester County, N.Y.–Briarcliff Manor to be more specific. She is part of a few different pharmacy groups, volunteers weekly at the United South End Settlements, an after-school care for kids 5-12 years old, and is a sister of Delta Phi Epsilon National Sorority. Her Campus sat down with the bubbly brunette to get her take on this year’s Homecoming and to find out why becoming Northeastern’s queen is so important to her.

Why did you want to run for Homecoming Queen?
I thought this was a good way to get more involved on campus; I wanted to be able to not only represent myself and my chapter, but my fellow classmates in the pharmacy program as well. 
I know I will make a good Queen because I am well-rounded, open minded and I pride myself on being a genuine person. Although at Northeastern, Homecoming Queen is simply a title, if there were responsibilities entailed with the role, I would like to push for more emphasis and opportunity to get involved and give back to the community around campus; students shouldn’t feel like they need to be a part of a specific student group to volunteer and make a difference, anyone can. Being a Husky should be enough of a uniting factor to bring students together to help give back and make changes both within our school’s community and within the neighborhoods of Boston.

Suppose you did have some sort of power for winning Homecoming Queen…
With the incredible fortune that I would inherit by being crowned, I dream of building a huge extension on the library: providing enough tables for everyone to get a seat during finals time and include an entire floor dedicated to couches for napping. I would allocate less funds toward touch screen vending machines and flat screens TVs that have two messages on repeat or just pictures and put it toward lowering tuition fees. Plus, I would extend the summer classes trend of “no Friday classes” to a year-round policy, because let’s be realistic: we work hard enough to deserve three day weekends all the time. 

Who do you think should win as Homecoming King?
(She was reluctant to answer this question, but we managed to get an answer out of her…)

I do not play favorites, all of the contestants running for Homecoming King seem promising, however, the man who rules beside me should also share the principles of being fair, just, honest and charitable. In addition to this, he would have to be able to handle a powerful woman as his partner.

Also, being handsome wouldn’t hurt. [laughs] 

What is your favorite thing about Boston?
I cannot say I have only one favorite thing about Boston, but I do love the spirit the community here has. I love how much pride there is amongst Bostonians of their sports teams, their history and their beautiful city. I am from New York, but I have grown to love it here. I am a Yankees and a Giants fan, however, I have developed a real love for the Bruins and the Celtics. I love how the city comes outside when there are games and explodes with every win. I was here the night that the Bruins won the Stanley Cup and thinking back to that night still makes me smile remembering how the city just went wild. I love that I can’t take a step without touching some piece of history here; there is a common factor of pride and power that’s run throughout the city since the days of the Boston Tea Party and gives the city a sense of independence and self-confidence. Bostonians speak their mind and stand up for what they believe in, and because of this, I didn’t have too much trouble fitting in.
