Meet Appa Fan, Vanessa Maramba!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

When I first met Vanessa, she was rocking a backpack covered with stegosaurus-like spikes (don’t worry, they’re just fabric) and an even more stand-out smile.  Meet this sophomore cutie who’s enthusiastic about everything from poetry to service trips!

Basic Info:
Name: Vanessa Maramba
Hometown: Glen Ridge, New Jersey
School/Year: A&S ‘14
Major: English

On Campus:
Activities: I do Appalachia Volunteers (my favorite club ever) and I’m also volunteering for the Women’s Research Center Love Your Body Week.  I also just started going to meetings for Stylus, the literary magazine.
Best class: Studies in Poetry with Elizabeth Wallace.  I’ve always liked poetry, and my teacher’s really into it – she has all these poems memorized.
Worst class: Last year I was in Chemistry with Wolfman – it speaks for itself.
Bapst or O’Neill: Bapst (no hesitation). It’s such an inspiring study location, with all the themed stained glass windows – like the one with scenes from Shakespeare and the philosophy window.

Fun Facts:
Favorite place to eat: I really like Addie’s.  The carrot cake cupcakes are sooo good.  The other day they ran out and I almost cried.
Pet peeve: I’m protective of my food, so I hate when people take it without asking.
Hidden talent: I just learned how to solve a Rubix cube (it took a few weeks)
Guilty pleasure: Vampire Diaries
Celeb crush: So many… now I can only think of guys from Vampire Diaries (laughs).  Aside from them, I’m a huge Jude Law fan.
Single or Taken: Taken.  He goes to BC and he was my Appa leader.

Julianne is an Ohio native studying communication at Boston College with a concentration in journalism. She got involved with Her Campus BC when the chapter launched in December 2010. She began as an editor and contributing writer, and since has moved up the ranks to Campus Correspondent. Aside from working for Her Campus, Julianne is a certified personal trainer at Boston College's Flynn Recreational Complex and teaches group fitness as well. During her sophomore year, Julianne was a part of the Arrupe Program at BC and traveled to Guatemala, learning about the culture, political, social, economic, and religious issues of the country. Her goals post graduation include writing for a health and fitness magazine or working in communications for college or professional athletics. As for now, however, she is enjoying life at the University she loves so much! An avid hockey and football fan, one can always find Julianne in the stands rooting on BC and the Boston Bruins! Other hobbies include running, yoga, cooking, baking, and photography.
