Adam Putterman 2013

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

You may have already heard the name Adam Putterman before in the context of his impressive tennis accolades. This year, he won Regionals and then placed second in the Small College Nationals! But aren’t you curious about the power breakfast that leads this player (and Campus Cutie) to victory?

Studying? Econ & Finance.
Hometown? Houston, TX
Activities on campus? Member of Sig Ep and I’m on the tennis team.
What are you being for Halloween? A cowboy.
Your favorite Halloween costume in the past? A baby penguin. I wore a full penguin body suit.
Are you rooting for the Rangers? No, I went to the game on Thursday and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I had never seen that many people so happy.
Do you nap? Not really anymore – maybe only once a week. I used to nap freshman and sophomore year but it just kills me. I never ended up getting anything done. Now I just go without sleep.
Do you have any siblings? I have two sisters. One is 24 and my younger sister is a sophomore in high school.
Do you speak any other languages? No, I studied Spanish, but I hated it.  Everyone in Texas tries to learn Spanish.
I hear that you’re a picky eater? Essentially, I only meat and cheese. When I get a sandwich, its only turkey and cheese. And I like pasta.  When I was little my mom would make me eat salads and I just hated them. One time she made me sit at the dinner table until I finished my vegetables and I sat there for four hours.
What do you order from Katie’s? Pizza with chicken on it. It’s not even on the menu.
Your favorite candy? Reese’s are the best. I had six yesterday.
Tell me about your season this year? I won the Region and then got second in the Small College Nationals. But I got killed in the Finals by a senior from Emory.
When did you first start playing tennis? When I was 8. My dad played and I wanted to be like him. I’ve had the most fun playing tennis in college. It is the first time that it has really felt like a team experience.
What is your game day ritual?  It changes from year to year. This fall, I always did the same warm up with my doubles partner. I listen to the song “Gold dust” by DJ Fresh. And I get really superstitious. I will only use one grip.
What is the breakfast of champions? During tournaments, I have the same thing every morning. A bacon, egg and cheese sandwich from Einstein’s and a blueberry muffin, a vitamin water, chocolate milk, and a little bit of a sprinkle cookie. I have to have a dessert with every meal.
So have many cavities do you have? No cavities. Never had one.
How do you celebrate if you win? Usually the team will all go out together and have fun.
And commiserate if you lose? I get pretty angry. I won’t talk to anyone for a while.
