True Life: You’re a Twi-Hard

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

November 18th, 2011. If you’re a Twi-Hard (…like me), you know this date marks the release of Breaking Dawn: Part 1. Yes, I will be at a movie theater for the midnight showing. No, I will not be dressed in a “Team Edward” shirt, or as a werewolf, or as a vampire…I’m not that obsessed. While I am anxious to see the last book of my favorite saga portrayed on the big screen, I enjoy the books much more than the movies, and I think it’s safe to say that most feel the same way. Some of the acting is too awkward to watch, making us quite uncomfortable in our seats when Kristen Stewart takes 45 minutes and has to blink maybe 50 times before being able to muster out the name “Edward.” Some of the scenes are done in a way dramatically different than the books described them; essentially ruining whatever images we had in our heads. However, despite some of these setbacks, there are a few reasons to still secretly love the Twilight movies, and having them remain a guilty pleasure:

1. The Actors:

Ah, the superficial reason we love these movies. I don’t think any girl in the world is going to complain about Taylor Lautner being shirtless for over 1/3 of the movie. And, the whole are they/aren’t they dating drama with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson was just too good to not follow. P.S. Thanks Kristen for FINALLY admitting you “have a British boyfriend.” Hmm…wonder who that could be?

2. The Music:
The music played throughout movies can truly make or break them, and the Twilight movies have unbelievable soundtracks. The indie-vibe throughout the movies reflects the thoughts and emotions of Bella since she’s pretty off-beat. I highly suggest downloading all of the soundtracks to the movies, as the songs have been a great addition to my iTunes library.

3. The Locations:
In my opinion, production did an excellent job selecting the locations to film each of the movies. I truly get the Pacific-Northwest feel in each film, complete with the extensive forests and dramatic cliffs. And the Volturi in Italy was EXACTLY how I pictured it would look.

While it will always be difficult to compare movies to books, we can still indulge ourselves in the guilty pleasure of the Twilight Saga movies. It’s not going to be an Oscar-worthy movie, but we are all excited to see our favorite books come to life. So, I will see all of you Twi-Hards at the movies on November 18th at midnight, aka the Team Edward vs. Team Jacob showdown.
