This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.
Remember that time when Charlie Sheen went berserk and created those crazy YouTube videos about his tiger blood? (How could we forget?) He mouthed off about unicorns, war, and the CBS execs who fired him from Two and a Half Men. Sheen specifically targeted the head honcho of the station, Les Moonves, in one of his rants, calling him “less than goon-ves” (Check it out here at 1:57). Aside from the fact that Sheen is ridiculously creative with his insults, does this have any relevance to us? Yes. Les Moonves is a proud Bucknellian at heart.
While at Bucknell, Moonves was a Spanish major and a member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. He also found interest in the university’s theatre department, performing in several plays including Cap and Dagger’s “The Alchemist”. Â
Upon graduation in 1971, Moonves moved to New York City to experiment as an actor. Although he landed a few small roles in the city, he soon realized he could pursue a more successful career in another part of the industry, so he began to work at Cataline Productions as a development executive. Â
After holding many positions in the television industry, such as president of Lorimar Television and president and CEO of Warner Bros. Television, Moonves eventually acquired his current position of president and CEO of CBS. Â
Moonves can serve as an inspiration to us all. His incredible success has allowed him to become one of the biggest names in the television industry, and let’s face it– he definitely has Bucknell to thank for that. Even as an industry executive, Moonves is still a true, Bucknellian class act; when asked about Charlie Sheen in a recent interview, he responded, “We only wish him well.” Â

That being said, how could you not love this week’s campus celebrity?Â
Here’s another reason to be a Les Moonves fan: if we follow the six degrees of separation principle, we’re only two degrees away from Charlie Sheen. Does this make us his tiger blood followers? I secretly hope so.
