Tri Delt – Fat Talk Free Week!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

“Friends don’t let friends fat talk.” This is the mantra for Delta Delta Delta chapters across the nation that are advocating for positive body image through their fourth annual Fat Talk Free Week.

The campaign’s website states that in the United States, nearly 10 million women are suffering from eating disorders. Moreover, in a recent Harvard University study, 3,200 women were asked if they consider themselves beautiful and only 2% (64 women) said yes.

The sisters of Delta Delta Delta encourage everyone to take “The Pledge” which states:
Today I promise to End Fat Talk in conversations with my friends, my family and myself. Starting now, I will strive not for a thin-ideal but for a healthy ideal, which I know looks different for every person, and focuses on health not weight or size. I will celebrate the things about myself and the people in my life that have nothing to do with how we look.

The Tri Delt at Emory will be hosting the following events to celebrate positive body image:
Wednesday, October 19 at 5 PM: Meditation with Bobbi Patterson in Canon Chapel in Room 106.
Thursday, October 20 at 5 PM: Yoga lesson on the sorority village lawn with Kristi Glazer, a certified yoga instructor who is a senior in Tri Delt.

All are welcomed and encouraged to attend these events and remember to quit the fat talk!
