10-Year-Old French Vogue Model. Yay or Nay?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brown chapter.

Last year’s December/January issue of Vogue Paris was one of the more controversial ones to date. I’d like to pull it out of the archives for this week’s Her Campus Brown issue on sexual images. A fourteen-page editorial featured ten-year-old Thylane Lena-Rose Blondeau posing seductively, with lipstick and stilettos to boot. Photographer Sharif Hamza, who I had the opportunity to work with this past summer, comments, “Put five (four?) years on her and that’s a Diesel ad. Feel free to call me a Puritan if you wish, but I will remain unsettled by this. I will also wonder if you know what Puritan means.” Do you think fashion has gone too far, or is this a celebration of youth and beauty? When does sexy turn into child predator alert? Here are some photos from the shoot.

Haruka Aoki and Luisa Robledo instantly bonded over the love for witty writing and haute couture. Haruka, a self-professed fashionista, has interned at Oak Magazine and various public relations companies where she has reached leadership positions. Luisa, a passionate journalist and editor of the Arts and Culture section of Brown University's newspaper, has interned and Vogue and has co-designed a shoe collection for the Colombian brand Kuyban. Together, they aim to create a website that deals with the real issues that college women face, a space that can serve as a forum of communication. With the help of an internationally-minded team section editors and writers who have different backgrounds, experiences, and mentalities, these two Brown girls will establish a solid presence on-campus.
