Bucknell has many claims to fame. DU inventing a version of beer pong in the 70s? Check. The great 2005 Bucknell vs. Kansas upset? Double check. The grandfather from Gilmore Girls? Bet you didn’t know that one! That’s right, our very own bubble was once the stomping grounds of actor Edward Herrmann. Â
If you’re not a fan of Gilmore girls, I’m sure you’ve indulged in some History Channel watching and have been hypnotized by that deep and mysterious narrator voice. Who does it belong to, you ask? You’ve got it– Edward Herrmann! (He’s even nicknamed “The History Channel Guy”) Â
As a member of the 1965 graduating class, Edward was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity (We can’t help but picture him breaking out moves at Phi Psi’s Boyband register or building the Shipwrecked ship on frat row.).  After four years in Lewisburg, he went on to study drama at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art on a Fulbright Scholarship, and his hard work paid off in the form of several Tony Award nominations and wins.
In addition to Gilmore Girls and The History Channel specials, you can see Edward in movies like Annie, Richie Rich, and The Aviator, as well as on TV in Law and Order, Grey’s Anatomy, and Drop Dead Diva. Edward also bears a strange resemblance to Franklin D. Roosevelt, and it turns out the big guys in Hollywood think so, too. He’s been in many made-for-TV movies as the former president.Â

Edward as FDR                   the real deal
The passion Edward has for acting is clearly portrayed in every movie and television role he has had. Â The man himself sums this up perfectly: “I love the spoken word. Â I love hearing it. Â The way the words can seduce you.” Â Well, you’ve certainly seduced us during many History Channel marathons, Ed. Â From drama to comedy, his talents are far-reaching, and we are proud to call him a fellow Bucknellian. Â
