You Missed Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

Reading Days has come and gone. Some of you went home for a little R and R. Some of you indulged in some kind of pastoral retreat or escaped to the city before winter sets in. Some of you maybe even hopped on a job interview orĀ went to Atlantis to claim one more tan before going to Hottie Body (I don’t know your life). Whatever you did while you were away, I can promise you this:

You missed out.

Reading Days in Gambier was killer. Here are a few highlights so that you can be filled with regret before diving in to the grueling weeks ahead.

  • Watching Greek in my apartment. What with the beautiful weather and newfound freedom, what better time to get sucked into another ABC Family show? Nine hours and seven Reese’s pumpkins later, I’m obsessed with Cappie (is he awesome or horrible?) and depressed that I didn’t transfer to Miami of Ohio three years ago (especially since the climate there is apparently the same as USC’s).
  • The car show. On Saturday, for no reason at all, there were about fifteen retro cars just chillin’ in the street from the market to Middle Ground. For a second I thought I should stop and take a look, but then I was reminded of the fact that I don’t have a car and will be stranded on campus all winter. Screw you, car show.
  • The omelet line in Peirce. Or should I say, “what line?” Thanks to decreased foot traffic in Peirce, I only had to wait twelve minutes for my personalized brunchā€”just enough time for me to appreciate all of Gordzilla’s curves.
  • The wedding reception in Gund. Gunderworld got a makeover this weekend as the site for a celebration of eternal love and commitment. Now, when I’m in the darkest moments of an all-nighter, I can reminisce of a time when “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang filled the ballroom instead of my dry sobs.
  • Getting some work done. I read thirteen pages.
Caroline Black is a senior Drama major at Kenyon College. In addition to co-founding and writing for her school's HC branch, Caroline is co-president of Beer and Sex, Kenyon's student-run freshman orientation program (and she enjoys making jokes about that title as much as you do). When she's not doing hippy-dippy acting warm-ups or volunteering with her service organization, The Archon Society, Caroline enjoys watching "Parks and Recreation" and dismaying her friends with terrible puns.
