Just a few years ago, this little place I used to consider my only home, seemed like the one place I wanted to get far away from. College seemed like the opportunity to free my self from the confinements of parental control. Could you believe it? I would be able to do whatever I liked, with absolutely no supervision of my actions. Three years down the road, I am still loving the freedom, but now that I come back to my home, Iā€™m starting to feel a bit like a visitor. Leaving me with a feeling like Anastasiaā€™s for the little girl who used to live here.Ā

Home and family is something that can be easily overlooked in college, with something unfamiliar and intriguing looming around every corner. But one of the most important lessons I have ever learned is, do not forget about where you have come from. The person that you are today, the person that all your new friends love, is a product of the family that so carefully brought you up. Just giving your mother, grandmother, father, sister, whoever, that call when you have an extra minute of free time, usually has a value to the receiver that infinitely exceeds the small effort you had to take to remember them. The fifteen minute walk through Grounds feels that much more special, when you spend it speaking to someone back home. I know my mother anxiously waits for my call everyday and the love she expresses towards me is what motivates me to keep loving myself. Your family embraces you and your unique qualities more than anyone you will ever meet and you must never forget to return their embrace by appreciating their existence. Everyone needs a bit of grounding while at college, and what better way to do so then by the roots that helped pave the way to the person you have become today.
