This week a helicopter crashed into the East River, Amanda Knox was cleared of all charges surrounding her indictment of murder, and Apple’s new iPhone 4S was officially announced. All of these headlines pale in comparison, however, to a statement made this past Sunday: Arrested Development, one of the funniest shows that has probably ever graced our television screens, will not only be making a reappearance in movie form, BUT ALSO is coming back for a limited, 10 episode season. Fans everywhere cried a little bit (okay, well I did) as the cast performed the chicken dance all together on stage. It was a magical moment.
For those of you who never witnessed an episode during the show’s three-season run on Fox, here’s a short run down of the synopsis:
A dysfunctional family.
That’s really all you need to know. There’s only one (semi) sane character, Michael Bluth, played by Jason Bateman. Otherwise you have his brothers, Gob, who is a striving magician, and Buster, who has the brain capacity of a 5 year old. His son, George Michael, develops a crush on his first cousin Maebe, yet ultimately dates a girl named Anne Veal whose gung-ho for Jesus and elicits no emotion whatsoever.
The best character, however, is Tobias. Tobias’ claim to fame is that he “was a professional twice over – an analyst and a therapist. The world’s first analrapist.” Not only that, but he refuses to ever be naked (he showers in jean cutoffs), is a struggling actor, and enjoys wearing costumes that include but are not limited to a dominatrix suit and pirate gear. He also may or may not have a crush on his brother-in-law, Michael Bluth
My character descriptions do not even come close to fully describing how ridiculously hilarious this show is. Every actor/actress is flawless in their comedic timing and every character is amazing in their own way. Guest stars have included Liza Minelli and Charlize Theron, who played a mentally retarded British girl who Michael fell in love with. Details are still unclear about when the movie/limited season will begin, but estimates point to 2013.
