Space ship? Alien invasion? None of the above. Pictured is what Life magazine considers one of the top “50 Must-See Natural and Man-made Marvels.”: Biosphere 2. The Biosphere 2 was completed in 1991 and was designed to replicate Earth’s environment and sustain a human population. The interior is over seven million square feet in area (or 2.5 football fields) and houses a rainforest, desert savannah, ocean, and coastal fog desert. Today, the biosphere is managed by the University of Arizona, draws over 100,000 visitors every year, and is a center for groundbreaking new science.

My name is Jessica Cooper and in the Fall I will be a Senior at the University of Arizona. I am majoring in journalism with a dual minor in history and judaic studies. My focus is in both print and online journalism. I have loved being a part of the Her Campus team for the last semester and am so excited to be the campus correspondant for the 2011-2012 year.
