Fall Fashion Spotlight: TV’s Most Stylish

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

There are a million reasons to love fall. The trees are bursting with color, library nights are actually bearable with a pumpkin latte, and new episodes of your favorite television shows are finally airing after a (forever long) summer hiatus. My favorite part about the season? The crisp autumn breeze is perfect for mixing summer staples with fall fashions. Fall at DePauw can be insanely busy, and between all those tailgates, midterm reviews, and harvest-themed informals, sometimes it’s hard to keep up with the latest looks. But have no fear all you campus fashionistas, because while you’re taking a break from that ten page paper to watch Gossip Girl, you’re also getting a crash course in fall fashion. Who knew television could be so beneficial to your wardrobe?

Be a fashion “do” this season and take a tip from your favorite stylish characters. Although some of them may be a bit self-absorbed (Rachel Berry, anyone?), all of them have impeccable taste when it comes to clothes. These television divas make fall’s hottest trends like retro-chic, ladylike menswear, color blocking, plush fabrics, and jewel tones look oh so fabulous. So throw on those blazers and put on a pop of color, because you, too, can pull of these small screen styles.

The Gossip Girls

Serena and Blair are the dynamic duo of fashion for fall. Serena’s edgy-glam looks are inspired by vintage pieces mixed with a rocker-chick vibe. Work Serena’s look on a night out to the frats by incorporating biker-esque leather jackets and bold jewelry or vintage-sexy patterned tights with platform heels—both are huge fall trends and great ways to convert your summery pieces for colder weather. Blair’s style is very preppy and polished yet bright and sophisticated. Channel Blair’s preppy vibe on the way to class by pairing an indigo blue, mustard yellow, or rustic red cardigan (huge colors for fall!) with a pleated skirt or wear a pair of colored jeans and a chic slouchy sweater.

The Glee Girls

Rachel Berry and Quinn Fabray are the epitome of traditional beauties with a retro twist: think plaids, polka dots, dresses, and bows. This fall’s 60s-inspired trend of knee socks with flats is so Rachel, and so are mod details (striped sweaters, plaid skirts) and retro dots (especially in black and white). Quinn’s look is a little bit more feminine, so give your riding boots a soft, girly remix by wearing longer, knit socks that peek out of the top or wear a flowy dress with a tailored touch, like oxfords or a blazer.

Pretty Little Liars

Although this guilty-pleasure is taking a break until January 2012 (they’re also airing a Halloween special), these four girls’ looks are still flawless for fall 2011. Whether you’re channeling Aria’s love for rich fabrics (furs, animal prints, and chiffon are trending now), Hanna’s glamorous fall-ish touches of lace and sparkle, Spencer’s tailored, menswear-inspired outfit with a touch of vintage-chic, or Emily’s laid back layering style, your autumn wardrobe will be perfect for studying and bar hopping your way into the winter months.
