Spurlock’s, Purdue Bar, Closes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

Spurlock’s, a bar on Purdue’s campus located at 119 N. River Road officially closed on Monday. The eatery had been open for a total of 23 months, closing just before its two-year anniversary.

The quaint little two-story bar, located next to the McDonald’s at the intersection of State Road 231 and State Road 26, has cited parking and location as the cause of their low revenue and the reason they have decided to shut down the West Lafayette location.

Spurlock’s owner, Jeff Spurlock, told The Exponent that fellow West Lafayette restaurant Triple XXX was asking Spurlock’s to pay rent on 5 parking spaces in Spurlock’s own parking lot.

It was because of this alleged dispute and low revenue due to the location of the restaurant that Spurlock’s has closed.

Spurlock hopes that loyal Spurlock’s customers will accept the closure of the West Lafayette location and will continue to support the Spurlock’s in Lafayette.

The Lafayette Spurlock’s is located at 721 Main St. in downtown Lafayette, just across the bridge from campus. This location opened six months ago. Some employees of the West-side location have been offered jobs at the downtown location if they desire to continue employment with the company.
