How to: Make Your Own Graphic T-Shirts

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Graphic t-shirts are really not a new trend.  Fans have been wearing shirts with their favorite band or musician on them for decades.  It used to be that you had to steal your mom’s ACDC shirt from “back in the day” to achieve this trendy look.  However, my roommate recently introduced me to a process that allows you to make your own!  It’s a very simple, fun way to express a trend that’s taking over and truly make it your own.   It’s a very simple process to make a graphic t-shirt at home with any picture you want!

First, you will need to pick out a shirt that you want to put your image on.  It’s best if you wash the shirt before beginning the process.  Next, pick out whatever image you would like to put on your shirt.  Then, print out your image on iron-on transfer paper.  My roommate recommends Jolee’s Transfer Sheets ™, which you can find at any craft store.  The transfer sheets will have specific directions on how to transfer the image onto your shirt.  It basically involves printing out the image on the special paper and then ironing it on to your shirt.  It takes less than a minute to iron your picture on, so the hardest part is choosing one!

Choosing pictures of your favorite band or your favorite musician’s name is always a good place to start. However, you could also put pictures of your favorite designer, word, animal, anything!  Also, you can always cut your t-shirt into a tank top to further personalize your look.  Below are some examples of the amazing tees and tank tops that you can make yourself!
