How did you get started?
Back in 2007, a friend and I started Def Club 3000 (DC3k). The company was a brand that included photography and events. We wanted to keep everything in-house. We didn’t want to pay. We needed DJ’s to promote us. For the last three years I researched and saved money for the equipment and practiced for months.

Why did you decide to go into this direction?
My company is what I love. It’s focused on every art form outside of what others are studying. What there doing for the company is what they’re passionate about. People are scared to quit what they’re doing because of their security.

What does DC3k offer?
You can compare our company to the Nike or Red Bull brand, based on our events. We offer a DJ, photography, videography and marketing and public relations as well.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In another country. Traveling, taking the brand overseas. I want to see the world. Learn two more languages.

What advice would you give to other students and children who are wanting to start their own business?
Be realistic. Keep your daytime job. It takes money, so be willing to sacrifice. Support yourself. Be willing to say its bad today, but this is what I love. Think about it as a full-time job. Anything you do at a regular job still applies. Find partners to help. Have business people to help keep track and legalize it.

What motto do you live by in life?
“Fantasy is what people want, but reality is what they need.” –Lauryn Hill
Seems like people think things aren’t going to fall into place and accept that.

Becca is an Oklahoma State University fashion journalism student. After she graduates in December, she wants to work for British Vogue. She believes that although a $1,200 sundress looks fantastic on the runway, there are less expensive alternatives to looking fabulous. Knowing how to shop on a budget is a vital skill for every college woman. She has recently completed a life-changing study abroad experience in London and a visual merchandising internship at White House Black Market in Dallas. Becca wants to show the fashion world that you can look beautiful without breaking the bank.
