Kicking Into Fall Fashion

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

September is an awkward time for weather. The humidity of summer can spill well over into its beginning, or fall can act as the cold precursor to winter that it really is. So where does this leave us, the fashion-forward of the world? We’re caught between dressing connotatively for autumn and clothing appropriately for the weather. Luckily, there are tricks that can help you achieve the best of both worlds, and better ease you into the transition between summer and fall.

 Shorts and a Scarf
Wearing shorts doesn’t necessarily mean wearing a tank-top match. Opt for shorts to keep your legs cool, but layer on top to emit that fall-fashion feeling. A fitted blazer, a long-sleeved shirt, a scarf—they all do wonders for creating that New England fashion.

Boots and Dresses
Your boots and your cute summer dresses are dying to meet one another. Introduce them! Your boots don’t want to constantly be paired with your favorite pair of beat-up jeans. Boots are ambidexterious; too often people think that boots only work with jeans. They work in different ways with each outfit. A feminine look, like a dress or a cardigan, can be grunged down in the perfect way, simply by adding boots.

Tights

A common misconception about tights is that their primary purpose is warmth. While tights are great for accenting a cute outfit and simultaneously providing warmth, you and your tights do not have to succumb to any sort of boring fashion formula. Pair tights with skirts, dresses, even shorts. Tights add texture and another layer of depth. Don’t get matchy-matchy with your tights; add purple tights with a green and blue outfit. The more fall color the better. So my fashion-forward bobcats, experiment and see what works best for you!
