A Husky at Last

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

After years (yes, years) of anxiously waiting, the big day finally came. I forced myself to eat a small breakfast.

My room at home was almost completely empty and lifeless after I had cleared every DVD, poster, accessory and article of clothing out of it, packing the family van to its fullest possible extent,

At 6:45 a.m. on Sept. 2, my mom backed out of our garage as I took a last look at my house, knowing I would not be back for months.

It was a bittersweet moment, but excitement quickly won over all other emotions.

Finally getting to Northeastern University and moving in was hectic, to say the least.  My freshman dorm, Melvin Hall, isn’t normally a far walk from North Lot–but with two bins filled with suitcases, boxes, fans, lamps and everything else that I packed, the walk to Melvin felt like it took FOREVER.  Once I got there, I crazily threw all my belongings into my side of the room so that I could run back to my car and unpack the rest before the half-hour parking pass expired.

Long story short, unpacking everything from my car was not the real problem here. It took me almost a full week to get everything organized in my room!

After being at Northeastern for two weeks now, I finally feel like I’m home.  A tip to all prospective Northeastern collegiettes™: Take advantage of all the activities offered in Welcome Week!  In my first few days at the school, I went to activities fairs to learn about the different clubs on campus, attended a free BBQ hosted by the school, saw Hellogoodbye at afterHOURS, got a free ride to a HUGE Target in Cambridge, and met some of my professors and fellow Political Science majors before classes started.

I have to admit, any nervousness that I felt the first day or two completely went away after going to all these activities.  Not only were they a great way to get free stuff (pens, sunglasses, T-shirts, Vitamin Water, and Mac & Cheese, to name a few), they were also a way for me to meet new people on campus.  I’m beyond happy that I get along with so many people in my dorm, but I definitely don’t want to have only one group of friends. Welcome Week helped me branch out and get to know people in different dorms, majors and years at Northeastern.

Now that I feel all moved in at Northeastern, I’m getting really excited to become active in many different clubs on campus.  My classes are really interesting, and I was lucky enough to get some really terrific professors.  I have one foot in the door here and I can’t wait to share more of my experiences at Northeastern with my fellow collegiettes™ as the weeks and months go by!
