One major misconception about LASU is that it is only for Latin American students. LASU is for anyone that is interested in learning, supporting and being a part of the Latin American cross culture that is explored.
One of LASU’s big events this semester will be its 42nd annual banquet named “Bajo La Misma Luna” or “Under the Same Moon.” The banquet will honor immigrants and the real struggle they face in hopes of a better life for their families and themselves. The event will be taking place on November 5, 2011. It is definitely something to go and show off that dress you’ve been dying to wear!
Aside from its banquet LASU will be taking up new endeavors. Such as a College Weekend for high school seniors, organizing a community project with Binghamton High School and even organizing LASU’s dance team Quimbamba into an actual dance team!
According to Radairis Diaz, the SA Representative for LASU, “all these projects are aimed at expanding LASU within the campus, and through other universities.”
LASU’s not the only multicultural group on campus trying to make a stamp, so during the next few weeks, check out as many GIMs as possible here on campus! You won’t regret it, maybe you’ll find something awesome that you’ll be proud to call yourself a part of.
