Editors’ Note (May 22, 2011): Bittersweet Symphony

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brown chapter.

A bittersweet sensation always manages to accompany summer. We have to let go, move on, grow up. The fact is once classes are over we have to accept that another year has gone by. Call us nostalgic, corny or even a little esoteric, but it feels like everything is happening a little too fast. We started off this semester in a pensive note — new beginnings. As the year came to an end, and we had the chance to look back, we realize that it has been a complete and utter roller coaster ride. Together, we have gone through existential crisis, experienced the crumbling of our faith in romanticism, break ups and make ups.

In spite of how much we feel we have learned, how many questions we have managed to answer, many unresolved issues and “what ifs” linger. We don’t have all answers; in fact, we don’t really know what we are doing. But, if we act, if we take chances, then at least we know we are living our lives. Sure, we’ll make mistakes, fall flat on our faces and feel foolish, but, at least, we will know we did everything we could. At least, we’ll know we had guts.

Have a great summer!

With the help of an internationally-minded team section editors and writers who have different backgrounds, experiences, and mentalities, these two Brown girls will establish a solid presence on-campus.
