With summer just around the corner, it’s time to say goodbye to our sweats, jackets, and uggs and hello to sun dresses, bikinis and flip-flops. Not only is it time to dress for the summer, but it’s time to get that perfect beach body that we struggle to have all year round. But the big question is HOW do we get that perfect beach body? Sure there’s the usual exercises we all know about like running, biking, elliptical, and crunches, but what do we do when we’re sick and tired of the same routine?
Personally, I know that I’ve dealt with this issue many times. Exercising outdoors in the fresh air is great, but I’ve always been one to workout at the gym. So I get to the gym, but then the question arises: what do I do?! My problem was solved this past summer when I met my personal trainer Amanda Ebner. I’ve heard of many people investing in a personal trainer, but I always thought it was for people who had absolutely no idea what to do or had no motivation to go to the gym themselves. It turns out I was one of those people who had no clue how to actually use the machines provided at the gym. The UCI arc, for example, is huge! It provides us with so many machines, weights, classes, etc., but how many of us actually know how to use the gym accurately?
So I looked into personal training at our very own arc and met Amanda, who has changed my working-out ways forever. She made me realize that the way I exercised for the past few years was completely wrong for my body type. In just six sessions, she showed me so many different exercises that worked out every single muscle in my body, muscles that I had never worked out before in my life because I never knew how.
I like to go to the gym everyday, so being sore wasn’t a very familiar feeling, but after my first session with Amanda, I was sore for three whole days. I could barely move!
It was painful but it was a great feeling to know I was doing the correct workout. Needless to say, in just a couple weeks I was seeing so many changes, and by the end of my six weeks of training I couldn’t have been happier with my training and the way it worked out. I felt like a new person and it was by far one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!
Personal training sessions at the arc can be a little pricy, but they offer a buddy package. So grab a friend and learn how to exercise right! I guarantee it will make you so much happier to see the results you’ve always wanted. Although Amanda doesn’t currently work at the arc, she provides a service in which she’ll email a 7-day schedule of workouts complete with nutritious breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks for each day. This way, if one-on-one sessions don’t work out for you, you still have still the option of new and different exercises!
