For my last birthday, I got my very first massage. It was amazing–too bad I can’t get another one for finals week! But don’t worry, ladies. If lavish spa treatments are too expensive or time -consuming now that it’s getting down to the wire, try a few of these tricks for feeling less stressd instead.
- Do your studying at a coffeeshop or bookstore. It has a calmer, less school-ish atmosphere, you can get something delicious and caffienated to drink, and they almost always have wi-fi.
- Can’t go to a salon? Paint your own nails, or have get a few friends together so you can all paint each other’s. It doesn’t take very long, but it’s the perfect thing to break up your study time. And the cute color will be there even after your tests are conquered.
- Keep your room clean. When your stuff is organized, not only will it help you find those papers or books you need more easily, it’s also less stressful to look at.
- Listen to classical music. Yeah, I understand that Beethoven isn’t topping the charts like he did in, say, 1779. But it’s the perfect background noise. It’s not distracting or overwhelming, and it’s really pretty. I have some on my iPod to listen to while I study, and there’s the added bonus of feeling more worldly when you can identify some classical pieces you hear in movies.
- Don’t be unrealistic. There are 24 hours in a day, you can take half of one hour to get some lunch, talk to a friend, or watch a little TV. The key, as in all things, is moderation. Keep the studying and the relaxation balanced.
- Make plans with your friends for a post-final event. Go out to your favorite club, go see cute baby lions in African Cats, have a scary movie night, burn your notebooks from that hated physics class–whatever you want. College is a lot of work, and you’ve made it another semester.
