Five Must-See Summer TV Shows

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

With the end of another school year comes a deserved summer vacation.  I don’t know about you, but for me summer consists of endless hours in the sun, barbecues, driving with the windows down, hanging with friends by the pool, laying on the beach, and having a decent amount of free time.  Luckily, summer also brings about a whole new batch of TV shows that are the perfect way to spend some free time and to have some fun!  Here are some suggestions of summer TV shows that will be premiering in the next few weeks!

1.  The Bachelorette
Grab the girls and set a weekly date with ABC starting May 23 because The Bachelorette is back with 25 all-new bachelors, fairy-tale destinations, and of course, plenty of steamy romance.  Basically, this is the perfect summer guilty pleasure.  Dental student Ashley Hebert, is determined to find true love after being rejected by Bachelor Brad Womack last season and will go to any length to find the man of her dreams.

2.  Masterchef
Tired of watching the endless repeats of Top Chef, Cake Boss, and Rachel Ray?  Gordon Ramsay, host of TV’s Hell’s Kitchen, is back with an even more fiery temperament, more rage, and more determination than ever.  His new show, Masterchef, will search the nation for America’s best home cooks.  Through a series of exciting elimination rounds, he will turn one of them into a culinary connoisseur.  The show premieres June 6 on FOX and will be sure to please all of America’s foodies!

3.  True Blood
HBO’s summer hit, True Blood, is back for its fourth season starting June 26.  With a drop-dead gorgeous cast, twisted romantic relationships, and plenty of vampire drama, this show is a must-see!  Although the show is commonly referred to as the grown-up Twilight, don’t let the comparison prevent you from watching.  This is far from any angst-filled, teenage, love triangle and will sure to have you hooked after just one episode.

4.  So You Think You Can Dance
For all you reality TV junkies out there, summer can sometimes be a difficult time filled with reality withdrawal.  However, Fox’s hit show So You Think You Can Dance is back on May 26 for its eighth season with more talent than ever before.  The loveable judges and adorable host, Cat Deeley, are back and ready to entertain America once again.

5.  White Collar
USA knows how to create amazing, dramatic crime shows and White Collar is just that.  Season three starts on June 7 and will continue to follow con man Neal Caffrey as he helps Peter Burke, an FBI agent, catch other criminals as part of a work-release program.  If you’re not a huge fan of crime shows, tune in just to check out Matt Bomer, the strikingly gorgeous actor who plays Neal.

There you have it!  Don’t spend your summer watching reruns every night, but instead choose a new series to follow.  These five shows are just a glimpse of what will be premiering in the next few weeks, so if you have any favorite summer series hitting the tube anytime soon, let us know in the comments!  Have a good summer!
