The Laughing Planet Cafe: An Organic Oralgasm

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

We all know that Eugene is famous for being one of the most granola (hippie/vegetarian/vegan/health-crazed) places on the planet, and as a result, healthy, all natural restaurants thrive here. Among these is one of Eugene’s best-kept secrets: the Laughing Planet CafĂ© at 760 Blair Blvd. The cafĂ© is a “quick-service restaurant that serves nutritional fare in the form of tasty burritos (otherwise known as Portable Nutrition Devices or ‘PND’s), bowls, soups, salads, smoothies, juices, and home-made cookies.” If that doesn’t sound like an oralgasm, I don’t know what does. And being that I’m hardcore against processed foods, I fully endorse the Laughing Planet’s endeavor to deliver healthy, whole, unprocessed foods to our little city of Eugene.

As a healthy eater and process-o-phobe, I’m constantly on the prowl for great food at great prices. Usually, the two don’t often go hand in hand. Healthy, good quality food is generally more expensive than a bag of Doritos or a burrito from Qdoba (can you say calories?), and as students who can barely rub two pennies together, that doesn’t work to our advantage.

But the best part about this little place is that it is incredibly affordable for the kind of eats you’re getting. Average dish prices are between $4-$7, and you get plenty of bang for your buck. Megan Canales, a 20-year-old junior collegiette™, says that Laughing Planet’s food is “healthy, decently priced, and definitely a unique menu for people who are vegetarian!” I’ve heard nothing but praise about this great quick-serve joint and recommend that any health-crazed (or not) collegiette™ tickle their tongue with this tasty treat!

A University of Oregon junior and San Francisco native, Charmaine Ng loves authentic noodle dishes and will always opt for Asian and Italian cuisine when pressed to choose a restaurant. She is a self-proclaimed "noodler," someone who uses her noodle to collaborate with others and bring big ideas to life. She interns for a student-run full-service ad agency, blogs for a wedding and event planning company, and runs the UO Muggle Quidditch League. In her spare time, she sleeps, and sleeps, and sleeps - and dabbles in social media and blogging, her two biggest passions. Her quirkiness isn't apparent at first, but then she starts talking about packaging design and making funny faces, and you wonder what happened to that shy Asian girl you first met. With ambition bursting beyond the campus walls, Charmaine can't wait to graduate and work for an agency, company, or publication in community outreach efforts using social media.
