The Truth about Hair Removal: Part 1

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

You know that feeling when your friends decide to make an unplanned trip to the beach? Or when your boyfriend makes a surprise stop by your place late at night and you haven’t shaved yet? Annoyance and urgency that you need at least 5 minutes to yourself so you can quickly do some quick touch-ups without cutting yourself. Finally when you’re finished your heart rate slows and you wish you had done this earlier. We all have different ways of dealing with unwanted hair. Whether it is shaving, waxing, laser, or just going au natural, I decided to go out and try to find the easiest solution to getting rid of bikini hair.  A few months back I went to Gainesville to visit my friend and we decided to make an impromptu stop at Uniwax salon. We had always discussed having bikini waxes done but were too scared of the pain and not to mention dropping your panties for a complete stranger.

As we walked inside, the butterflies in my stomach multiplied and I almost backed out. But my friend, God love her, is amazing at calming me down. She convinced me that a few moments of pain would pale in comparison to not having to deal with this for at least the next month. Finally my name was called by a middle-aged woman named Olga (fitting right?) and she took me to the room and told me to relax. A hard thing to do considering what she was about to do. Now I wont go into the details but yes, it was painful.  It was not nearly as bad as I had psyched myself up for it to be. At this particular place they do not use waxing strips, rather the wax just hardens so they pull that and it honestly felt like someone was just pulling a bandage off. I was very happy with the results and they told me that I shouldn’t have to worry about coming back for around 4-6 weeks. While it got the results done, I still wish there was some way that wasn’t as painful or nerve-wracking. But I have to say if you want the job done quick and easy then definitely go with waxing. Just pop an Advil beforehand. Keep on the lookout for my next blog on how laser hair removal works out!
