10 Spring Style Essentials For Unpredictable Ohio Weather

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

For most schools, March means spring weather, which in turn means spring wardrobes.  But not for Ohio State!  Here in Columbus, the weather is moody and unpredictable, with rain, hail, snow, and sunny warm days often falling all within the same week.  As a result, dressing for class in the morning can feel like a major challenge!  Therefore to help OSU collegiettes™, we have scouted the spring trends and picked the top 10 essential items that will keep Ohio from raining on anyone’s style parade.

1. Anorak/Military jacket.  Light yet warm, the anorak jacket is a must-have this spring for Ohio State ladies.  Throw it over shorts, a dress with tights, or jeans, and you are set to go for the day.  Make sure to pick one with a hood in case of a surprise April shower!  We love this one at Pitaya.

2. White jeans.  Go from class to happy hour in these fresh and all-types-of-weather-friendly jeans, and get ready for showers of compliments.

3. Shades.  At OSU, being prepared with a pair of sunglasses is a must.  Keep this adorable pair in your purse.

4. Printed Scarf.  A printed scarf is an OSU collegiette’s™ best friend: it jazzes up an outfit and comes in handy when it starts to get chilly out!

5. Lightweight knit sweater.  Jcrew makes an adorable and easy striped boat-neck sweater that can be paired with jeans, shorts, or even skirts.  We also love the lacy, cropped sweater at Pitaya.

6. Denim/button up shirt.  Perfect for those days that start out at 35 degrees and end at 70!  We like this one too.

7. Cross-body bag.  At OSU, even a walk to the library can take a good 25 minutes.  That’s when a cross-body bag comes in handy: big enough to store whatever you need to tote around, without compromising your style.  We love the collection at LuLus.

8. Cute print dress.  This dress is truly perfect for a spring in Ohio—versatile and trendy, it looks cute with tights and boots one day, and with sandals the next.

9. Slouchy sweatshirt in a bright spring color.  Throw this comfy sweatshirt on for class after a long night—it’ll weather whatever storms you need to get through during your day.  Try this teal one from alloy.

10. Tom’s sneakers. Cute with a conscience, and in a pastel pink that’s sure to put you in the mood for spring while still keeping your feet covered from the Ohio elements.   They are actually designed to dry quickly if they get wet, which is perfect for those surprise rain pours!
