It’s Hollywood’s golden night. Designers pull out their best pieces, starlets spend hours getting ready as the film industry celebrates in full glory. We both love the Oscars, and not just because it’s one of the best runways of springtime. There’s something exhilarating about watching our favorite stars grow and succeed in their careers. This year was full of wonderful performances (some were even unforgettably scarring), which is why we decided to go à la Vanity Fair and have our Hollywood Issue.
Sam Carter, our first male writer and film connoisseur, has sent us a piece all the way from Barcelona on Darren Aronofsky, director of Black Swan. It wasn’t Aronofsky’s night to shine, as Carter explains, but this is one director to keep our eyes on. On her second article, Aida Manduley speaks of the language of love (or of half of Hollywood’s films, for that matter)—a fundamental topic of which most of us know very little. And to wrap things up, we have a rising Brunonian star, Zoe Wheeler. With her crosswords published in the New York Times and a recent appearance on The Martha Stewart Show, this crossword constructor/puzzle-solving genius is making it big. Perhaps sometimes, life does take a movie-like turn, and in a brief moment, everything changes. Those who recently won an Oscar have earned the industry’s most celebrated honor. Those who learn to speak the language of love will enjoy the happiness that comes along with it, avoiding unhealthy situations by communicating in a smart way. And those like Wheeler, who possess a unique talent, will find overnight stardom in their own, individual realm.
