Today was weigh-in day and—drum roll please—I lost 2.5 pounds in my first week! I was having a no good rotten day when finally, I stepped on the scale, not expecting much. I mean, I didn’t even do as much cardio as I probably should have last week, and I was really beating myself up over it this past weekend when I was anticipating today. But boy, did I stick to that diet plan. Nothing was more encouraging today than seeing that number on the scale be less than it was a week ago. And the best part? 1-2 pounds a week is what is ideal for longterm weight loss.
Yup, SELF magazine’s Jump Start Diet does work. So if you weren’t sure you wanted to join, I highly recommend it.
My friends also had a “family dinner” tonight, so I was prepared for challenge. Turns out it really wasn’t too difficult. A friend made a pork roast and another broiled some salmon. I brought the steamed broccoli, and we all had a lovely dinner. My friends are really supportive of my diet so the host found her smallest wine glass and poured me 4 oz portion. Jillian Michaels recommends no more than two 4 ounce glasses a week, so I figured with today’s success, I could have one.
Also, I got a nice package of Truvia the other day so I decided that my friends’ family dinner would be perfect occasion to try a recipe out. I picked raspberry oatmeal bars, but replaced the raspberry with strawberry because my boyfriend sadly hates raspberry. These bars are only 130 calories with 4 grams of sugar, so technically they are within the 200 calorie dessert range on the Jump Start Diet (although not ideal since it’s not as natural as the other fruit based desserts. Still, it was a decent special occasion treat).
My friends LOVED them and devoured almost the entire pan, which is good for me because I definitely don’t want sweets lying around the house. I’m not going to lie, they are pretty tasty, and I definitely enjoyed them myself. It was nice to have a special treat that wasn’t going to be too harsh on my diet. Thanks, Truvia!
I’m so recharged for this week. Fun time with friends, a great start to reaching my goal, and a little taste of success. Here’s to nine more weeks on this incredible journey!
