How To: Create a Versatile Wardrobe

If there’s one thing we all have in common as college students, it’s that we don’t have much money to spend on clothes. But, as spring nears it’s time to think about whipping those closets into shape and spending less but getting more.
Step one: Choose clothes that you actually plan on wearing. We’ve all been there. You walk into a store and instantly spot this amazing dress that just so happens to look great on you. But let’s be honest, you have no place to wear it and instead of being able to model it like you want, it will just be gathering dust in the corner of your closet. Now when you walk into that store, instead of heading straight for that dress, veer left and notice those great pair of jeans that you’ll be able to not only wear to school, but to that party down the street.
Step two:Choose basic colors. I know, I know, people think basic colors and they think boring. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Not only are they very versatile but you can easily add a funky accessory to spice it up a little. Like those great pair of jeans you found, you can wear these basic colors to class and then throw on a cute pair of heels and an amazing necklace for the date you have later that night.
Step three:Never underestimate the power of accessories. I mentioned this in step two, but the power accessories have to change an outfit is amazing. You can take that free flowing sun dress, add a belt at the waist, and change it to a sultry party outfit. Or take that boring outfit you have planned for your job interview, add a fun necklace and you instantly stand out from the other applicants. And not only do these items have the power to change those outfits, but you can also find them pretty cheap.
Step four:Choose clothes you can easily layer. Let’s face it, we live in Iowa, a state where the weather can turn at the drop of a hat. Where it can be nice and sunny one day and snowing the next. That’s why when shopping for clothes; make sure you find pieces that can be easily layered. Now you can wear your favorite tee layered over a long sleeve top for those colder days, as well as for the warmer days. It’s a win win situation.
If you follow these four easy tips, not only can you save some extra green in your wallet, but you’ll have a wardrobe that can transfer easily through the different seasons and from day to night. Now, get out there and get shopping.
