Shape-Up Rhodes: Tone Up for Spring Break Without Even Leaving Your Room

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rhodes chapter.

Spring break is right around the corner, even though it may seem so far away with all of the schoolwork professors are assigning.  Midterm exams and papers may cause students to ditch the gym and hit up the library for long periods of time without breaking.

The truth is that studying without taking breaks is unhealthy. A recent psychological study at the University of Illinois found that “when faced with long tasks (such as studying before a final exam or doing your taxes), it is best to impose brief breaks on yourself. Brief mental breaks will actually help you stay focused on your task!”

If you’re looking for a study break and you want to get into spring break shape, here are some awesome exercise tutorials you can follow in the comfort of your dorm room by celebrity trainer and fitness blogger, Sarah Dussault.  (This beats reaching for your laptop, hopping into bed, and procrastinating on Facebook for hours and hours…)

Dorm Room Workout Tips

  • Always lay down a mat, towel, or find a carpeted area.  Do not attempt abdominal exercises on a hard surface.
  • Wear sneakers if you’re going to be squatting or standing.
  • Make sure there’s nothing that you will trip over on your floor!
